COVID

Considerations

Here are the current 2024 camp rules.  Should the COVID situation require us to change these, attendees will be notified by email, along with the option to cancel their registration without a penalty.

Here’s our policy in a nutshell: required test before leaving home, show proof of a negative test upon arrival, and let us know if you test positive after camp. We plan on having a mask-optional camp.  Should the current Covid community transmission levels change significantly, we may change this policy to require the wearing of a well-fitted mask.  Keep reading for details. Learn about additional efforts we’re making to keep you safe.

Northwest Passage Dance Camp is sponsored by the Portland Country Dance Community (PCDC) and as such we adhere to their Covid policies.

TESTING: In the interest of a safe camp, and so we do not have to turn anyone away, we require that you self-test BEFORE leaving home (preferably no more than 24 hours before arriving at camp), especially if you are flying or traveling a long distance. Take a timestamped picture of the result, which you will need to present at camp. Also, consider taking extra precautions the week before camp, such as wearing a mask in indoor public spaces. If you’re carpooling, we suggest you mask in the car, and ensure that everyone tested negative before getting into the car.

If you have symptoms or test positive, do not come to camp. We want to see you at camp, but remember, a full refund will be made for dancers who need to cancel because of Covid symptoms, a positive Covid test, or exposure to someone with Covid within the last 5 days.

MASKING: After your negative Covid test is verified at camp, masking will be optional.

Everyone has their own needs and comfort level. Please respect everyone’s choices.  You are very welcome to wear a mask. If you choose this option, please bring a supply with you.

If community transmission levels increase significantly, we may change to requiring wearing a well fitted mask indoors (except when eating or sleeping). If this change is necessary, there will be an option to withdraw your registration without a penalty.

LETTING US KNOW: If you test positive for COVID after attending camp, please email us at igotcovid@portlandcountrydance.org and tell us when you tested positive, where you were lodging (if staying on site), and any symptoms you might want to mention. We will let other campers know about possible exposure, but we will never reveal your identity.

WHAT ELSE IS BEING DONE?

  • Kiwanis staff will be fully vaccinated and likewise tested upon arrival at camp.
  • Air scrubbers in each forced-air HVAC system will help mitigate the spread of pathogens.
  • Hepa filters are located in each sleeping area.
  • Each bunk bed will have a personal semi-permeable curtain up on the open side of the bed. (This is to provide more privacy as well as reduces the risk of droplets spreading while everyone is sleeping).
  • All sink faucets, toilets, and paper towel holders will be hands-free.
  • Camp staff will wipe down surfaces in restrooms 2 times a day.
  • Sanitizer and wipes will be provided at the self-serve buffet.
  • For those who want to eat out of doors, there will be 5-6 big tents outside with large picnic tables seating 10-12.
